Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport

CITCOnveyors delivered a complete baggage handling system as part of the terminal renovation at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport (JIB), the main international gateway of the Republic of Djibouti, serving the capital Djibouti City in the Horn of Africa. The project covered the full baggage chain end to end — departures, baggage handling and arrivals — integrated into the existing terminal building.

 

In the departures area, six check-in desks are arranged in three double islands. Each island is served by a double weigh-in conveyor, with integrated weight confirmation, that moves bags from the check-in counters onto the collecting line. The collecting conveyor is split into two branches — one gathering baggage from two islands and the other from the third — which merge at the rear of the system before feeding the baggage handling area.

 

The baggage handling system routes hold baggage toward make-up using a combination of straight transport conveyors and inclined conveyors, engineered to fit the available footprint within the renovated terminal. On the arrivals side, the airport is equipped with two large-format, custom-shaped baggage reclaim carousels — designed and manufactured to a non-standard geometry tailored to the terminal layout, rather than a classic catalogue shape — delivering generous reclaim frontage with reliable, low-maintenance operation.

 

Engineered and manufactured in-house and commissioned to international airport standards, the Djibouti project demonstrates CITCOnveyors' capability to deliver a complete baggage handling system — including custom-engineered carousels — within a renovation, integrated into a live terminal environment.
